It only takes a few bugs to enter our homes and wreak havoc. They can multiply, causing flea bites and infestations. When this happens, our pets are at a higher risk of danger. Bugs cause extreme irritation to them and can give rise to tick-borne diseases. If you spot flea bites on your pets, you must seek immediate remedy to the pest problem.

Here are some ways to get rid of the ticks and fleas for good.

1. Comb ticks out
Ticks can literally latch on to your pet’s hair and make the task at hand difficult. The best way to get them out is to use a flea comb with thin bristles. It can effectively remove flea larvae and eggs and bring quick relief to your pet. Ensure to take your time through the neck area, as that’s where fleas usually hide. Keep a bowl of water handy to get rid of the bugs after you comb them out of your dog or cat’s fur. Combs are useful to free the coat of dust mites and debris too.

2. Try natural remedies
Natural treatment is a non-toxic way to remove pests from your pet’s coat. PETA suggests using garlic, as it acts as a natural flea repellent for pets. Another excellent way to keep bugs away is to draw a rosemary bath. However, if your pet is fussy about baths, try creating a spray instead. Simply add leaves from a rosemary plant into hot water and let it rest until it cools. Once the water is emulsified with the herb, transfer it into a spray bottle, and spritz it over your pet’s coat.

3. Flea-proof the surroundings
There are a couple of things you can do to keep your pet’s environment safe. Vacuuming sofas, carpets, and other furniture pieces can remove flea eggs and prevent infestations. Also, avoid humid conditions as much as possible to prevent tick build-up. Work to this end by keeping rooms ventilated. There are also flea hormones available in the form of sprays meant to cause sterility in fleas. You can use these on floors and furniture for flea-control.

4. Use flea shampoo
Flea shampoos can be effectively used to get rid of the bugs. First, speak to a vet about some organic shampoos safe for your pet. It is advisable to pick one that is free of paraben and soap to keep harmful chemicals at bay. Once you narrow it down to a pet-friendly one, use it once a week until your dog or cat feels better. After you lather it over their coats, let it rest for five minutes to let the shampoo do its job.
